Fun and games at this years Commodore's Challenge
Commodore’s Challenge today was a competition between Team Dove (Ollie Unsworth (captain), Wendy Jones, Ian Johnson, Jen Moorby, Alice Morris) and Team Stone (James Jones (captain), John Hesten, Mark Healey, Ian Jones, John Macdonald, and prospective future member Tamsin). First challenge before lunch was a regular handicap race, won by Ian Jones, with Wendy Jones second and John Hesten third. This was followed with a Farmer, Chicken, Fox, sack of Grain challenge, ferrying said items between the two pontoons without the Fox eating the Chicken or the Chicken eating the grain. This was won by Team Dove, following an impressive display of tactical initiative by both teams on the final leg. The day finished off with a relay race involving change of crew each lap and bonus points available for sailing backwards, doing 720deg turns, and successful man overboard recovery of a football. While Stone was first boat to finish, Dove accumulated more bonus points to clinch this challenge. The overall result was close with Team Stone winning the Commodore’s Challenge Trophy with 18 points to Team Dove’s 16.
