Dovestone at Royal Windermere Yacht club.

Graham, Lucy and Sonia visited Royal Windermere Yacht club to compete in their Flying Fifteen Open event over the weekend. No, they didn’t have three in Sweet Chariot, Sonia was crewing for Ian Shaw from Notts County in a lovely Silver named Miss Kitty.

Day one started well with bacon butties and a gentle sail, for the thirty boats competing, up to the North Lake area ready for the start first race of a scheduled five race event.

The first race, a two-lap windward leeward course, started in light but sailable breeze with the fleet splitting between both sides of the course. The wind favoured the right side and on the downwind leg Graham and Lucy established a lead, which they maintained right up to the last mark, when Impulsion, crewed by Ian Ackroyd and Peter Richards, came from underneath them and pipped them at the post, leaving 3805 Sweet Chariot 2nd and 2864 Miss Kitty 24th and first Silver.

The wind then died and the fleet spent several hours drifting round the committee boat before racing was abandoned for the day.

Following a pleasant social evening with “bowl food” prepared by “The Cumbrian Chef” the fleet arrived bright and early the next morning to a flat calm.

All the boats launched and sailed slowly to the North Lake in time for the scheduled 10:25 warning signal, but by 12:00 it became apparent that the wind was not going to set in, and racing was abandoned for the day.

Even so a good result for Dovestone with:-

Graham and Lucy second overall and
Sonia and Ian first silver boat.
